FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • In a limited obstetric ultrasound the sonographer checks for three things: determine if the pregnancy is in the uterus, measure gestational age, and measure the fetal heart rate. Our Medical Director oversees the sonographers and reads the ultrasound scans.

    A limited obstetric ultrasound does not diagnose anything beyond the three items listed, and will not reveal the gender of your baby. An anatomy scan, typically done around 20 weeks, is commonly done during prenatal care with your doctor.

  • If you are seeking medical services at RETA, you will need to drink plenty of fluids beforehand. Our pregnancy testing and certain STI tests are run through a urine specimen. If you are having an abdominal ultrasound, it is important that your bladder is full to obtain the best images and measurements during the scan.

    If you are seeking an ultrasound, a transvaginal ultrasound may be performed if you are less than 11 weeks pregnant or additional ultrasound images are needed for accurate measurements.

  • Due to the individualized care given to each client, appointments are approximately one hour.

  • Yes, we currently have a Spanish speaking nurse on staff with RETA. Currently, Tuesday and Thursdays are the best days to reach a Spanish speaking medical professional.

  • In Indiana, minors are able to consent to certain types of care without parental consent, including prenatal care and STI testing. While we would encourage you to be open and honest with your family, we do not release any of your information without your consent, unless required by law.

  • Yes, at RETA we assess each individual's needs and make referrals as they are needed.

  • Currently, our medical services are limited to pregnancy testing, STI testing for gonorrhea, chlamydia, and HIV, and limited obstetric ultrasound in the first trimester. We do not provide full prenatal care at this time, but we will give you referrals for an OB/GYN and/or midwife that will provide prenatal care. We do offer parent coaching to help support you in your parenting journey.

  • Yes, if you need someone to help you navigate through a situation or have medical questions, you may schedule a consult appointment and have a nurse sit down with you to help answer questions and listen to your needs and concerns.

  • Abortion Pill Reversal involves using progesterone to reverse the effects of the first pill of chemical abortion -Mifepristone. Mifepristone blocks the pregnancy hormone progesterone to the developing baby. The reversal simply counteracts those effects by supplying extra progesterone for the baby. Studies show a success rate of approximately 66% for reversing mifepristone and continuing the pregnancy.

  • Yes, if we have availability for both appointments we will try to schedule you for back to back appointments.

  • Yes. When a client is experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, we share about the option of adoption. If the client is interested in learning more, we can connect them with individuals who have experienced adoption from all angles – from those who have placed for adoption or adopted a child, to those who were adopted. If the client is interested in taking next steps toward making an adoption plan, RETA refers them to reputable agencies we trust.

  • Items in the Family Store are purchased by using points earned through parent coaching.

  • Coaching is one-on-one. Participants will meet with a staff member or a volunteer. By meeting one-on-one, we can tailor the coaching to meet the needs of the participant.

  • We offer Mom’s, Men’s and Couples Coaching. Coaching covers topics ranging from prenatal, labor and delivery, breastfeeding, newborn issues, toddler issues, discipline, life skills lessons, and Bible studies. Coaching is individualized to meet the needs of the participant and can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly and are available Monday through Friday, with some evening availability. Points are earned for attendance and for completing homework. The points are redeemed in the Family Store for items such as diapers, wipes, car seats, newborn to size 6X clothing and household cleaners and hygiene items.

  • In Men’s Coaching we cover material related to parenting, relationships, and “life-skills” such as budgeting and goal-setting. Sessions and topics are customized according to a man’s situation and needs.

  • Many fathers come because they are motivated to be better dads. Some feel unprepared for an expected baby. Some do it because they want to increase their visitation or custody time. Some guys are court- or probation-referred. Some just want to learn about issues that concern them or want to talk with another man. Men and fathers of all ages (with kids of all ages) are welcome to get connected.

  • Men are able to achieve up to 6 levels by attending a specific number of appointments and doing suggested family activities. They earn certificates of completion and store gift cards. Guys can stay involved as long as they want.
