Mom’s in general are instinctively protective of their children. Statistics also show that mom’s are typically the primary caretaker’s of the children while the father is more of the provider. Often times moms will keep fathers from helping raise the children because they believe the father is incompetent, irresponsible, or they are simply mad at the father and are punishing him by not letting him have access to her children.
It is important for moms to recognize the advantages for having the father involved in the lives of her children. This course is designed to encourage mothers to co-parent their children with the father. Co-parenting is statistically proven to be the best way to parent children in our culture today.
This course is designed to work alongside of the 24/7 Dad curriculum. As fathers take the 24/7 Dad course, moms are encouraged to take Mom as Gateway so that both parents can be learning effective co-parenting skills and be able to discuss these skills together.
The objectives of this module are to:
- Increase mothers’ awareness of what gate-keeping is, how it operates, and how it is sometimes misused out of anger and hurt
- Offer concrete examples that will facilitate mothers’ understanding of the negative impact of excessive gate-keeping and the importance of supporting father involvement
- Engage mothers in exercises that will facilitate the reduction of restrictive maternal gatekeeping; behaviors that inhibit father engagement.
